Small Projects is a service to help the good people of this city bring their small projects to life, especially when the big league is too busy to help. I have the tools, wheels, workshop, and ample know-how.
Why small? With nothing so big to prove or chase, it's about helping people out, enjoying work in my wider community, and the satisfaction of problem solving. It also supplements my facilitation work and study.

Joseph Nicholls - Bio
I was the country kid from Golden Bay who grew up making anything with whatever I could find in the shed. I now have 25 years of experience in architecture and construction.
I have designed buildings around the world, taught sustainable design at university, built stage sets off-Broadway in New York, and I have recently designed and constructed my own small home in the forested slopes of Wellington city.
As neat as all that is, I've also been called away from design antics and into not-for-profit, community, facilitation and people-focused work. You could say I'm a recovering perfectionist, a former BArch, happy to still flex those skills in short bursts - and on the tools too.
Small Projects has emerged as a fun sideline, with its own clear manifesto of values - enabling a variety of humble and practical endeavors.
The adventure continues and now, finally, I have a shed space again! A workshop to get more crafty in. I look forward to whatever the next project may be.
